GOVCERT.NL Symposium 2008. 16 & 17 September - World Trade Center Rotterdam
How Sustainable is Your Security?
Don Stikvoort MSC MPNLP Coach S-CURE

Don has over 20 years of experience in security, incident management, architecture, implementation and organisational/management issues. Due to his background in experimental physics and long working experience in IT and security he combines overview and vision with a pragmatic hands-on approach. To solve an issue means discussing it in depth with the customer and find out what the obvious and less obvious incentives and gains are – and then together define and implement a workable and scalable solution (process, project, acquisition), and a feedback mechanism to measure success and enable improvements. Since 2006 Don has added coaching skills to the package, based on master practitioner grades in NLP and psychotherapy – as he recognises the great importance of good and meaningful communication on all levels of the working environment. He is strongly convinced that working can be both efficient and fun, and that the combination of both makes for healthy and successful organisations, where both employees and customers enjoy participating.

In the incident management field, Don had the privilege of being one of Europe's pioneers, since 1991. In his 9 years at SURFnet he chaired their CERT. With his own company, he helped create many CERTs, GovCERT.nl among them. He bootstrapped and led the global FIRST Secretariat until 2007, and has been manager of the Trusted Introducer CERT accreditation since its creation in 2000. Currently Don has a special focus on CERT maturity, audits and certification - a work in progress.

Help, I'm a CERT! Tuesday 16 September, 10:35-11:20, Leeuwen Room

In this session, Don and Jacques Schuurman, who both helped create GOVCERT.NL, will discuss the most common problems starting CERTs run into and present tips to bootstrap such organisations. They will focus on practical tips, based on the extensive experience that they have in the field.
