An entertaining and pleasant social event will take place on the evening of Tuesday 16 September, starting at 18.00 exactly. If you’d like to freshen up beforehand, make sure to be back at the WTC in good time! For those staying at the WTC, refreshments will be served in the Shipping Hall between 17:15 and 18:00 on behalf of GOVCERT.NL.
From 18.00 to 20.00 you can participate in one of nine activities (for details: see below). Please register for your activity of choice at the reception desk before 17:00 on Tuesday: each activity can only accomodate a limited number of people.
After the activities, at around 20.30, we will gather for a delicious BBQ buffet at the city beach of Rotterdam by the Maas river.
The evening will end at 22.00. A shuttle service will take you back to your hotel or the WTC.
The activities:
- Rotterdam in the spotlights (50 persons in 2 groups) Rotterdam in the spotlights is a tour with amusing insights about the most special, unusual, beautiful and ugly parts of the city. This tour is all about superlatives. You will encounter the smallest museum, the first skyscraper, the oldest statue, the highest office building and many others.
- Sky High (25 persons) During Sky High you will discover the pinnacles of the celebrated and much discussed Rotterdam architecture. There are many architectural master pieces in this tour that determine Rotterdam’s urban landscape today. Our lively guide will tell you all there is to know about the architecture of a city that doesn’t stand still and where during the years many notable architectural buildings have been created.
- Rotterdam by bike (50 persons in 2 groups) All highlights of Rotterdam will be revealed on this bicycle trip. Our guide will take you through the busy centre, the cosy old harbours, the Kop van Zuid, across the famous Erasmus bridge to sights such as the old town hall, the cube shaped houses and the Euromast tower.
- Upside down (25 persons) Climb the Euromast tower and enjoy the spectacular view! Our guide will show you the main sights once you’re on the platform. Not put off by heights? In that case get on the Euroscope which will take you up to a height of 185 meters. Once safely back on the ground you can have a closer look at the highlights during an interesting tour.
- Scooting in the City (25 persons) This unusual mode of transport will take you through the city centre. Our guide takes you on an energetic expedition seeing the highlights of Rotterdam and will treat you to interesting anecdotes and insights along the way.
- Segway City tour (25 persons) The Segway is the first electric self-balancing personal transporter in the world. After a short training, the group will go on a tour through the city. And standing on a Segway, everything looks a whole lot different!
- Tuk-tuk siteseeing (24 persons) A fun ride in a tuk-tuk through the city of Rotterdam. The driver of each tuk-tuk will give his three passengers a guided tour of the city, including sites like the Euromast tower, the Erasmus bridge, the pittoresque area of Delfshaven and the Schielandhuis building.
- Boat trip on the Maas river (50 persons) This round trip by boat on the great Maas river that passes through Rotterdam will show you various places of interest along the shores.
- Skyline painting on the Euromast tower (25 persons) On this striking location, the participants will create a painting of the skyline they see from their point of view high above the ground. You will be working together in small groups, under the supervision of a professional artist.
